  * 内容提要 *
  《大学英语快速阅读(第2册)》主要内容简介：在当今的信息时代，要适应信息量日益膨胀的形势，获取我们需要的、尽可能多的信息，提高阅读速度是十分必要的。因此，在目前的大学英语教学中，快速阅读受到了前所未有的重视。教育部颁布的《大学英语课程教学要求》（试行）规定，一般要求的英语快速阅读能力是“在快速阅读篇幅较长、难度略低的材料时，阅读速度达到每分钟100词，能基本读懂国内英文报刊，掌握中心意思，理解主要事实和有关细节。”较高要求的英语快速阅读能力是“在快速阅读篇幅较长的材料时，阅读速度达到每分钟120词，能就阅读材料进行略读或寻读。”基于这一精神，近年来，大学英语四、六级考试中的快速阅读题型做了重大的调整。这一新的变化要求《大学英语快速阅读》教材必须克服文字陈旧、选材不宽、题型不对路、课堂操作性差等缺陷。为了适应这一新的形势，我们编写了这套《大学英语快速阅读》教材。本套教材共分4册，每册12个单元，每单元包括5篇文章，其中长篇2篇，中短篇3篇。长篇每篇800-1300词，中短篇每篇240-350词。编排上采用由浅入深、循序渐进的原则，这样有利于逐步加快学生的阅读速度，扩大阅读量，同时也给学生
